High water cut conditions commonly arise in water or steam flood operations and in mature reservoirs. In such cases, the measurement uncertainty of Net Oil using a conventional 2-phase separator increases significantly, especially when water cut exceeds 85%.
Entering 3-Phase Measurement
The Accuflow 3-Phase JR separation metering system overcomes measurement uncertainty at high water cuts by implementing an additional separation step to isolate water from oil. The system features a combined configuration of an initial vertical pipe section and a horizontal pipe section, designed for efficient phase separation and accurate flow measurement.
Process
Production fluids, including oil, water, and gas, enter the vertical pipe tangentially, generating a cyclonic action that separates the majority of gas, which then rises into the gas flow line above. The liquid flows into a secondary vertical section where free water is removed at the front side of a baffle plate, which prevents disruption of the water/oil interface by incoming fluids. On the backside of the baffle, the oil/water interface is closely monitored, allowing the system to selectively dump either the water leg or the oil leg based on the interface level.
Liquid flow is measured using a Coriolis meter, while a water cut meter in the oil leg captures any remaining water in the emulsion. Gas flow is measured using proven technologies such as ultrasonic, vortex, or Coriolis meters, ensuring accurate and reliable measurement for each phase.
